Analysis of 0 to 200 km/h start times for all drivers and teams in 2021. Analysis of 0 to 200 km/h start times for all drivers and teams in 2021.

Watch onboard: Charles Leclerc race start + close battle with Carlos Sainz | 2021 Brazil GP

Analysis of 0-200 times for each driver and team competing in the 2021 Formula 1 season. The data consists of 357 launches/starts made at the start of the Grands Prix held in 2021.

All starts are from lap one, (so no red flag starts) to make sure fuel-loads are comparable. The bars represent median 0-200 time across the season (also the sorting order), while the circles/dots represent the recorded start times. Only starts taking below 6 seconds are shown, although there may be starts slower than that, e.g. Perez starting from the pitlane in Bahrain.

Before taking the data at face value, some reservations have to be made. Factors not accounted for include, but are not limited to:

  • Track conditions (Grid box “grippiness, circuit gradient, etc. Starts in damp/wet condition are not included
  • Tire compound used (although data on the subject indicates that this is a minor factor)
  • Reaction time (the data mostly depicts what happens after the drivers react to the lights going out).
  • Being influenced by other cars (e.g. getting a tow or having to avoid another car)
  • Very low sample-rate of GPS data
  • Kubica only did two starts
