Balance at the top
In Formula 1 history, it has been rare to approach a new season with so many different teams considered—at least on paper—as legitimate title contenders. The second half of 2024 showed great parity among the teams, and the common sentiment is that this could continue in the upcoming season. An additional factor likely to shake things up is the significant driver moves that have reshaped the market. But who will ultimately prevail in the battle for the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles? Journalist Lawrence Barretto offered his prediction on F1’s official website, F1.com.
According to the renowned British journalist, the 2025 Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles will again be split between two different teams, with Red Bull coming up empty this time. Lawrence Barretto predicted the first career world title for Lando Norris, while Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will bring the Constructors’ crown back to Maranello—a title narrowly missed last year by just a handful of points.
New champions
“Lando Norris met my prediction of a top-three finish in the 2024 championship, so I’m staying on his ‘train’ and predicting he’ll go even further in 2025, winning the title,” Lawrence Barretto wrote. “Norris can sometimes be his own greatest rival, being overly critical of himself when things go wrong, but he seems to have found a new confidence in the final stages of last season, which will be crucial this year.”
As for the teams, Ferrari’s dream duo will come out on top: “Ferrari rebounded in great style in 2024. Led by Fred Vasseur—in his second year at the helm—the Scuderia started the year excellently, recovered from a mid-season setback, and was arguably the best team in the final races. With Charles Leclerc at his peak and the arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, I predict this devastating pairing will bring the Constructors’ crown back to Maranello for the first time since 2008,” Lawrence Barretto concluded.
