Is Russia getting closer to the FIA? A well-known figure acts as mediator. Russia seeks to reconnect with the FIA (and F1).

FIA and Russia, a rapprochement is possible: Nikita Mazepin in the role of mediator with F1. After the start of the war in Ukraine, the sporting life of athletes from the Russian Federation became very complicated. In motorsport, they were allowed to continue racing without flags or anthems, but difficulties in negotiating with Russian sponsors sometimes hindered their progress.

A rapprochement between the FIA and the needs of Russian athletes, in this case, the drivers, could become a reality. Leading the mediation is Nikita Mazepin, in his new role as a businessman. The Russian driver had expressed several times his intention to return to the grid after his contract with Haas was canceled due to the onset of the hostilities in Ukraine.

It seems he has given up, despite some positive performances in other series. His goal now is to facilitate the entry of new drivers from the Russian Federation into motorsport. Someone has to take the first step, says the 25-year-old from Moscow, who wants to achieve equal rights and opportunities for young Russians in sports.

Nikita Mazepin: “I hope that Russians will soon compete in sports with their anthem and flag”
In an interview with TASS, Nikita Mazepin reveals his behind-the-scenes work: “There is hope that relations with the FIA will become closer. Of course, they won’t become closer on their own, but they will when someone starts taking an interest. Swimming is actively supported by my father, and I see that he always needs to fly to other countries to negotiate personally.”

“The goal is for our athletes to be invited to competitions, to be granted equal rights as everyone else, and to have the opportunity to break records. Unfortunately, we do not have such a situation in motorsport, but I am confident that this trend of Russian athletes returning to the global stage will continue.”

“I hope that soon we will see Olympians, Paralympians, drivers, swimmers, and all our athletes regularly participating in the World Championships. Not just with neutral status, but with the Russian flag and anthem.” – he concluded.
