Home » Carlos Sainz confident 2023 race will be “one of the best Spanish GPs ever”

Carlos Sainz confident 2023 race will be “one of the best Spanish GPs ever”. Carlos previews the Spanish GP.

The European triple-header
With the Miami Grand Prix now in the books, Formula 1 is gearing up for a triple-header of European races scheduled from the second half of May to early June. The next race is one of the most eagerly awaited by the Italian audience, who will travel to Imola to attend the Emilia-Romagna GP, with the sport then moving on to the glamour of the Principality of Monaco before arriving in Barcelona, the venue of the Spanish Grand Prix.

This event is particularly significant for Scuderia Ferrari man Carlos Sainz, the only Iberian driver in Formula 1, along with Fernando Alonso, who recently visited the Montmelò track for the weekend presentation with Josep Lluís Santamaría, Director General of the circuit, and Manuel Aviñó, President of the Spanish Federation and Vice-president of the FIA.

Carlos Sainz’s great expectation
A home race that will be the ninth of Carlos Sainz’s career in the top flight, where he made his debut in 2015 behind the wheel of the Toro Rosso, a team now known as AlphaTauri:

“They were good years but since then, there has been a lot of improvement,” he said during the presentation ceremony, “and this will be my third with Ferrari, so it’s something very special. The home race always has to be saved on the calendar, and even though Imola and Monaco come before this one, this race remains the most special, the one you think about the most. I’m more excited than ever because there will be even more people, and it will be one of the best Spanish Grand Prixs in recent years. Moreover, we are continuing to try to find the reason why we are not doing so well in the races. The improvements should come in the home round to take another small step forward.” – the Ferrari driver pointed out.

Hard work in Maranello
With these comments, Carlos Sainz introduced the topic related to the difficulties suffered by Ferrari in recent races, which however mix with the good form of the Spanish driver, as he himself explained: “I’m in a good moment, my mind is very focused on analyzing the driving style and the car to make progress,” he added, “so far we haven’t met our expectations, which were to fight for podiums and wins. There is a clear dominator, but we are trying to diagnose the main problem to solve it and recover.”

“We are trying to find the key. There is still a lot to understand, and in fact, we test many things every weekend. We are all seeing what Red Bull is doing, but in Maranello, we continue to give 100%. We are doing our best in the simulator and in meetings with engineers.” – the Spaniard added.

Special Moments
Meanwhile, for Carlos Sainz, the wait for the home Grand Prix has begun, which for the Ferrari driver will coincide with one of the most beautiful moments of his career: “I feel privileged to live the sweetest moment of F1 and its growth – he concluded – being a Ferrari driver is a very special feeling, a dream I’ve had since I raced my first race in Montmeló at the age of 10. But there’s also a bit of anger because there’s a dominating team, and sometimes we can’t add a bit of spice to the races. We try to comply with F1 rules, but there are engineers who can find things that others don’t have. Red Bull struck, and now it’s up to us to react. The fact remains that there is no better proof than the 8 minutes that the tickets lasted for the desire to come and see us. It’s another fantastic feeling to race in front of 100,000 people, very unusual. Races that I will remember for the rest of my life, very special moments in a driver’s career that are capable of giving an extra boost of energy.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
