There are not many doubts regarding the driver at the top of this particular leaderboard focusing on damages caused by crashes and incidents during the 2022 Formula 1 championship: former Ferrari junior Mick Schumacher, who joined Mercedes after leaving the Ferrari Driver Academy, forced Haas to spend 4 million dollars due to crashes. The estimate, provided by RacingNews365, is not surprising, given that the accidents suffered in 2022 were one of the reasons that prompted Gunther Steiner not to offer Mick a contract extension for the 2023 season and instead decide to sign a more experienced driver like Nico Hulkenberg, after criticizing the young German during the season.
In second position there is another driver who will not be seen again on the starting grid of 2023, namely Nicholas Latifi of Williams, who cost his team 3.4 million dollars in crash damages. In third place we find Guanyu Zhou of Alfa Romeo – who reached a total of 2.9 million – and who was involved in the most spectacular accident of the 2022 Formula 1 campaign, at the Silverstone circuit.
Finally, the presence of Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz stands out in the first five positions: Carlos is fourth with 2.8 million in crash damages, and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is fifth (2.7 million). Looking at the other side of the standings, the best were Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) and world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), whose damage cost their respective teams less than $500,000.
