Charles Leclerc on Ferrari problem presenting itself at numerous race weekends in 2022. The Ferrari issue Charles found 'not easy to deal with' in 2022.

Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc admitted that the difference between the Maranello team’s pace and performance in the qualifying sessions on Saturday as compared to the performances in the race on Sundays was “not the easiest thing to deal with” throughout the 2022 Formula 1 campaign.

Charles Leclerc took nine pole positions during the 2022 F1 campaign, which was more than the number of poles achieved by World Champion Max Verstappen, but most of the times the Italian side was not able to capitalize on the strong starting positions.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen went on to easily win the F1 world title with a record-breaking 15 victories, despite the fact that Charles Leclerc was hoping to challenge for the world title following his wins in Bahrain and Australia in the start of the season. But the Monegasque could only score one more victory for the rest of the 2022 F1 campaign, as Ferrari lost momentum as the championship progressed.

Charles Leclerc’s title hopes were hindered by several strategy mishaps (in Monaco, at Silverstone and Hungaroring) while major power unit reliability woes resulted in even more difficult Sundays for Scuderia Ferrari, a situation that the Monegasque driver admits was hard to accept.

“It’s obviously not the easiest thing to deal with,” Charles Leclerc said in one of his final interviews of 2022 – “But, on the other hand, you just need to be honest with yourself and maximise the package you have. [During 2022 we were] just struggling in the races, or at least Red Bull seemed to do a step forward in the races that we don’t seem to [have been able to] find for now.” – he added.

Charles Leclerc is confident that Scuderia Ferrari can fix this issue ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign: “We are looking into it and I hope we can find that next step very soon.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
