Max Verstappen Wins Everyone Over
Max Verstappen: four consecutive world titles and four consecutive nominations as the best driver of the year. This recognition doesn’t come from fan votes but from industry insiders—the Team Principals of all the teams participating in the 2024 World Championship. Formula 1 published the top-10 list of the most appreciated drivers on its official website, keeping the specific preferences of each Team Principal confidential regarding the drivers who competed in the recent championship.
The Rise of Nico Hülkenberg and Pierre Gasly
Max Verstappen retains the top spot from 2021 to today, finishing 72 points ahead of Lando Norris. The vice-world champion thus occupies second place in this special ranking as well, with the podium completed by Charles Leclerc. Both the McLaren and Ferrari drivers improved by one position compared to their rankings in the 2023 championship in the Team Principals’ preferences, though their progress was less significant than that of Nico Hülkenberg and Pierre Gasly. Ranked 8th and 10th, respectively, these two drivers made it into the top-10 after being absent last year.
Fernando Alonso Drops
Two drivers, however, experienced a significant drop in this Team Principal ranking. While Lewis Hamilton fell to 7th place, down two positions, the most notable decline was Fernando Alonso’s. Ranked 9th, the Aston Martin driver dropped a staggering seven places compared to 2023.
The team bosses which expressed their vote are the following: Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Christian Horner, Ayao Komatsu, Mike Krack, Laurent Mekies, Oli Oakes, Andrea Stella, Fred Vasseur, James Vowles, Toto Wolff.

2. Lando Norris – 178 points
3. Charles Leclerc – 121 points
4. Oscar Piastri – 113 points
5. Carlos Sainz – 110 points
6. George Russell – 86 points
7. Lewis Hamilton – 54 points
8. Nico Hulkenberg – 39 points
9. Fernando Alonso – 27 points
10. Pierre Gasly – 21 points
