Ferrari’s biggest regret in 2024 according to Fred Vasseur. The 2024 F1 season was not decided in Abu Dhabi, according to Frédéric Vasseur.

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari 2024

Ferrari’s biggest regret in F1 2024, as pointed out by Frédéric Vasseur, is not Abu Dhabi, where the final showdown with McLaren took place, securing the Constructors’ Championship for Woking. The issues began much earlier, in the summer phase of the season, costing the Maranello team crucial points for the standings. However, one race, in particular, stands out as a “black weekend” for the Scuderia.

The spectacle of the past season can be seen in the numbers: after twenty-four races around the globe, only 14 points separate the leader from the first runner-up in the Constructors’ Championship. This minimal margin rewards the masterful work done by Andrea Stella and the entire McLaren team, while at the same time leaving the Maranello team with a bitter taste.

Whether it is a crushing disappointment or, on the whole, a good result, it should be emphasized that the title was not lost (or won) in Abu Dhabi. Yas Marina was just the final chapter of a long and highly competitive season. The Formula 1 calendar rewards consistency, and sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint the “key moments.” However, Frédéric Vasseur is clear on his thoughts.

Frédéric Vasseur: Canada is Ferrari’s Big Regret

Speaking to Racer.com about the season, the team principal of Ferrari reaffirms what he had already expressed after the Abu Dhabi race: “On average, McLaren scored 26 or 27 points per weekend throughout the season. In the final part, we scored more points. It was mainly the double zero in Canada and the struggles we had during the summer in Spain, Great Britain, and Austria.”

“During this phase, we lost 80 or 90 points to McLaren over four races. But they also had moments when things didn’t go well. It’s always like this when four teams are fighting at the top; there are ups and downs for everyone.” – Fred Vasseur pointed out.

“If you look at the season, the race in Canada stands out. Charles had reliability issues, and Carlos had an accident during the race. Oscar Piastri also didn’t have a good race, but he was able to score points, and when there’s a battle at the top between several teams, it’s hard to recover from a double zero.” – the French manager concluded.
