Some rumors regarding new Ferrari engineers coming in
After the departure at the beginning of the season of David Sanchez – who will take on the role of Performance Director at McLaren in January – Fred Vasseur has long signed his compatriot Loïc Serra, who is expected to arrive in Maranello in July 2024. Another not better identified figure is expected, but not before January 2025.
Despite some rumors, Ruth Buscombe – a departing strategist engineer from Sauber – is not expected to join Scuderia Ferrari, while Xavi Marcos’s position is currently not considered at risk despite some pressure.
Power Unit improved in terms of power and reliability, Ferrari engineers are satisfied
The SF-23 has not been immune to failures, mostly of electronic-electric nature. The Ferrari power unit engineers, who have long been 100% dedicated to the 2026 power unit development, can declare themselves satisfied with the goals achieved with the current engine, considering where they were three years ago. The power curve has been available throughout the life of the PU without significant deficits, especially after the Monza software token that helped hybrid management. The 2023 Formula 1 season confirms that horsepower is no longer lacking: the Red car has consistently shown 10 km/h more speed than the F1-75.

From what is seen, Ferrari has the best thermal engine (ICE), and Honda has the best electrical efficiency, slightly ahead of Mercedes with Renault at the bottom. The good news this season – obviously in view of the 2024 Formula One campaign – is that failures in the endothermic engine (ICE) reported in 2022 basically did not recur. Ferrari ended the season with the same four engines in 22 races.
Real talks for the renewal of the drivers have begun
It is no secret that more in-depth discussions between Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have apparently started positively. Frederic Vasseur himself had indicated winter as the most suitable time to discuss. Although it has been a particular year between the two Ferrari drivers in some on-track incidents, the level of esteem and respect is very high. Discussions are personally handled by Fred Vasseur, and barring unlikely surprises, we should see the same pair confirmed at least until 2026, to properly prepare for the year when the new concepts – in the wind tunnel – will debut in early 2025 – and the new engines that will require a different driving style.
