Loic Serra to be new technical director: is he the right man to bring Ferrari on top?. Ferrari: The Importance of the Technical Director .

After Enrico Cardile’s departure to Aston Martin, Ferrari found itself without a permanent technical director. The position is currently being held on an interim basis by team principal Frédéric Vasseur.

The Importance of the Technical Director (It Won’t Be Adrian Newey)
Looking ahead to 2025, it’s clear that the team needs a different figure to coordinate the 677 project, which is tied to the development of Lewis Hamilton’s first Ferrari F1 car.

In recent months, the Maranello team has had intense discussions with Adrian Newey, the legendary Formula 1 engineer, but he appears to have accepted an offer from Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin.

As a result, according to various reports, it seems almost certain that the new technical director of Ferrari will be Loïc Serra, formerly of Mercedes. But is the Frenchman the right man to help reclaim the world title?

Is Loic Serra Ready for the Biggest Challenge of His Career?
With many years of experience in Formula 1, having worked for Michelin, BMW, and Mercedes, Loic Serra will join Scuderia Ferrari in October with a great responsibility: to design a competitive car.

The French engineer was promoted at Brackley as Director and Head of Performance in 2019. The following year, the team brought the W11 to the track, one of the most iconic cars in history—was this just a coincidence?

From a technical standpoint, Loic Serra, born in 1972, has nothing to envy from the best engineers around, but he has never held the top position overseeing all operations related to the car’s speed.

If he’s up to the challenge, he will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for Ferrari, capable of making up for Enrico Cardile’s absence and collaborating with Lewis Hamilton (given their past relationship) and Charles Leclerc to provide them with a Ferrari that can inspire great dreams—for them and for the fans.

Will Loïc Serra be able to handle the pressure and lead the team back to the top? We’ll have to wait and see, but one thing is certain: considering his profile, all the right conditions are in place.
