The press conference organized by Aston Martin last Wednesday, September 10, officially marked the end of the Newey saga. The English designer, after being linked to many of the top teams on the grid, ultimately opted to stay in England, joining Lawrence Stroll’s camp.
The Canadian magnate, also the owner of Aston Martin, managed to win the tug-of-war with Ferrari at the last minute, although rumors suggest that Frederic Vasseur deliberately passed on the major headline-grabbing move.
Commenting on the big news of the week in the podcast *Formula For Success*, Eddie Jordan, who has represented the interests of the 65-year-old from Colchester for years and helped his client break free from his contract with Red Bull, said: “Adrian, as is now known, will join Aston Martin starting from the beginning of March 2025.”
“Now, you might well ask: why did he go to Aston Martin when there were so many other teams that wanted him and were looking to secure his future? Well, in my view, there are a couple of very sensible and realistic reasons.” – he explained.
“One of these is that the position, which offers total control and responsibility, is something he has never had before with other team principals, shareholders, and partners, and that’s what it offers. It gives him an equity stake, a position of total responsibility, control, and a partnership with Lawrence Stroll. Clearly, this is very different from what happened in the past.”
“I can imagine and assume that this is a team very similar to the one he joined when he came to Red Bull 19 years ago, when it was a top-five team, just like Aston Martin is now, with a huge vision, an enormous desire from the owner, with Dietrich Mateschitz at Red Bull, and of course, Lawrence at Aston Martin.”
“Both, in my opinion, are very similar types of successful, entrepreneurial, and visionary people who have a great mindset, passion, belief, and total devotion to success. And I think that’s what Adrian will bring over time to Aston Martin.”

The Irish businessman then pointed out two other factors that drove Adrian Newey to accept Stroll’s offer: “The fact that he hasn’t worked with Lewis or Fernando yet was important. He tried to see what would happen.”
“Lewis will go to Ferrari. Of course, we discussed extensively with Ferrari, but also with Aston Martin, and Fernando has returned to give what Adrian considers to be, so to speak, the essence of his challenges. But he wanted to see how he could bring a team, just like Red Bull, from the top 5 to the top. It will be interesting and exciting to see how the situation evolves.” Adrian Newey’s manager pointed out.
Finally, Eddie Jordan added: “I have to believe that in the future, this team will have the opportunity and success that a private team like Aston Martin, in the hands of Lawrence Stroll, managed, controlled, and designed by Adrian Newey, has the incredible opportunity to become one of the great teams of the future.” – the Irish businessman, television personality and former motorsport team owner concluded.
