Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur commented on the situation between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the 2024 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
McLaren: a dominating car, but the strategies and driver management are the main topics of discussion. The actions and decisions of the papaya-colored pit wall have divided the paddock: some support the decision to give the lead back to Oscar Piastri, while others see it as another missed opportunity to gain crucial points against Max Verstappen with Lando Norris.
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur, prompted by journalists’ questions, shared his opinion on the controversial situation McLaren provided in the final stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix: “First of all, in their position, I would have enjoyed the one-two finish, but it’s a nice problem to have. I understand that during the race there was an undercut by Lando Norris on Oscar Piastri, a team decision to protect Lando from the returning rivals, but it was still harsh on Oscar. Then they made a decision that I can understand. Piastri had been leading from the start and the team decided to swap positions.” – the French manager explained at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, which was held at the 4.381-kilometre Hungaroring in Budapest last Sunday.
