Helmut Marko: “Monaco is essential to Formula 1, just like Ferrari”. Some surprisingly nice comments from Helmut Marko about Ferrari.

Scuderia Ferrari is essential to Formula 1 just like Monaco, these are the “surprising” comments of Helmut Marko. The Red Bull super-consultant was interviewed by the online version of Speedweek after the Monaco weekend, which was characterized by a long and boring procession of cars to the finish line. Fans and insiders are questioning possible solutions to liven up the Principality race, and the Austrian wanted to share his thoughts on this matter.

The Monaco Grand Prix certainly didn’t stand out for strong emotions or edge-of-the-limit duels. In fact, with little more than a handful of on-track actions, it can already be counted among the most boring races in the series’ recent history. The red flag on the first lap canceled the pit stop variable, removing the only possible complication for the teams. From there, until the 78th lap, it was just a simple parade of cars.

Many are questioning the future of the Principality. Some even suggest the most drastic solution, namely complete removal from the Formula 1 calendar. Helmut Marko, the Austrian former professional racing driver and a current director of the Red Bull, wanted to share his opinion, in total disagreement with this idea, comparing the Monaco circuit to Scuderia Ferrari.

“After the red flag, the Monaco Grand Prix was a procession, but it is impossible to imagine Formula 1 without Monaco,” explained the Austrian. “This circuit essential, it is to tracks what Ferrari is to Formula 1 teams. But something needs to be done. The simplest thing would be to modify the track, and there are already projects and ideas in this regard.” – he pointed out.

“Another option could be to impose two mandatory pit stops or require the use of all three types of compounds, so that some strategy comes into play,” continued Helmut Marko. “The 2026 regulations will make the cars lighter and smaller, but this alone will not solve the problem. Mandatory pit stops or having a layout that offers at least one realistic overtaking opportunity are needed.” – the Red Bull consultant concluded.
