Helmut Marko: “Ferrari has copied some things from us and improved others”. Helmut Marko sees Ferrari as favored even in Canada.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull

In a Formula 1 paddock where everyone now tries to copy technical solutions from the fastest car, Helmut Marko sees Ferrari as favored even in Canada after the impressive race win secured by Charles Leclerc on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco. The Austrian super-consultant, as usual without mincing words, commented on his expectations for the Montreal race. The Ferrari SF-24 starts as the favorite, having widely demonstrated its comfort on curbs, bumps, and slow corners, but this won’t be the only weapon available to the Prancing Horse.

Formula 1 flies to Canada for the ninth round of the season. The Montreal street circuit, dedicated to Gilles Villeneuve, will offer a new challenge to drivers and teams. A mix of slow corners, long straights, and imposing curbs that should balance the characteristics of the top three teams. However, Ferrari seems to have the complete package.

If Red Bull suffers on the curbs and McLaren still struggles on the straight, Maranello’s SF-24 possesses the right mix of mechanical grip and top speed. This is the opinion of Helmut Marko, who indicates the Red Prancing Horse as a potential favorite even in the Canadian Grand Prix.

“Ferrari is much easier to control on the curbs and is also better in terms of top speed,” explained the Austrian to the Kronen Zeitung. “We have lost our dominance in the last three races. Our rivals have caught up with us, it’s the third year of the current regulations, they have copied some things from us and improved others. There is no more room for innovation, and it’s a logical development.” – the Red Bull director pointed out.

The feelings in the paddock seem to converge towards Helmut Marko’s judgment. The opportunity for Ferrari is enticing, being able to get even closer to Red Bull in the standings, before returning to Europe. In Barcelona, the RB20 could once again be the car to beat, but this should not be frightening: the values in play, it is now evident, will change based on the circuit for the rest of the season.
