Helmut Marko doesn’t fear Red Bull’s rivals and believes “Ferrari is now out of the fight”. Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko feels "Ferrari is now out of the fight".

Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull 2024

Red Bull has lost its technical leadership. Although we still have our reservations on this matter, we must acknowledge the results coming from the track. For the past four races, since the Canadian Grand Prix, McLaren has been consistently competing with Max Verstappen for the win.

So far, the scoreboard shows two wins for the Dutchman (Montreal-Spain) and two for Mercedes (one for George Russell in Austria and the latest for Lewis Hamilton at the Silverstone circuit). Lando Norris’s greatest opportunity was undoubtedly at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, but we all know how that ended.

The McLaren MCL38 is widely regarded as the car to beat at the moment; however, it has not yet lived up to the hype. What is certain is that the fight for victory at the top has become very tight, with the RB20 having stepped back somewhat from the start of the championship. Or rather, the others have made more significant progress.

Progress that Red Bull’s management now expects to make with the latest update introduced in Britain. Improvements are necessary according to the team’s consultant, Helmut Marko: “The update must work. If we consider the results of the recent races, we have fallen behind McLaren and, looking at Silverstone, also behind Mercedes.” – he pointed out.

Despite the difficulties, Red Bull does not fear its rivals. The Austrian manager still believes they are in a privileged position, considering that “Among the competitors there is no prevailing leader,” and one team has dropped out of the fight. “Apart from Verstappen, there have always been different winners, and moreover, I think Ferrari is now out of the fight,” – he added.

“However,” Helmut Marko concludes, “we cannot rely on this. Our goal is to get back to winning races solely on our own merits. We still have 12 weekends ahead of us. We must try to take advantage of this fluctuation in performance to not lose ground.”
