No more delays: Carlos Sainz seems to have decided on his new venture for 2025 post Ferrari. The Spaniard will leave the Maranello team at the end of this season to make way for Lewis Hamilton.
Since then, driver #55 has been searching for a seat for next year. From Audi’s offer to Flavio Briatore who absolutely wants him in Alpine, and finally to Williams, Carlos Sainz has carefully considered all the options on the table.
And in the end, he seems to have made his choice. According to F1 Insider, the Grove team is the only one capable of fulfilling all the Spaniard’s desires, so he would have signed to go to Williams next year.
Besides the impressive salary of about ten million euros and a Mercedes-powered car, the contract also includes an exit clause. According to the details, this would give him two options: not start his year at Williams at all, or leave the team if the opportunity to move to Mercedes or Red Bull arises in 2025.
A similar scenario could occur if Mercedes hesitates to take the young Andrea Kimi Antonelli alongside George Russell. In this case, an agreement between Williams head James Vowles and Toto Wolff is even suggested. Antonelli would go to Williams, while Carlos Sainz would drive for Mercedes.
If the deal is done, as they say in Germany, why hasn’t it been announced? On Thursday, the Spaniard was very vague about his future. Yet his father and his manager were spotted in the Williams hospitality area. For his part, James Vowles praised Carlos Sainz and has never hidden his desire to hire him as Alexander Albon’s new teammate.
