How Formula 1 fans reacted as Ferrari name Zhou Guanyu 2025 F1 reserve driver. F1 Fans react to Zhou Guanyu Ferrari reserve driver announcement news.

Zhou Guanyu Joins Ferrari as Reserve Driver for 2025 – Fans React to the Surprise Announcement

Ferrari has officially confirmed that Zhou Guanyu will take on the role of reserve driver for the 2025 season, joining Antonio Giovinazzi in supporting the team’s efforts behind the scenes. The move marks a return to familiar territory for Zhou, who was previously part of Ferrari’s Driver Academy before making his Formula 1 debut.

The Chinese driver steps into this new role following a three-year tenure at Sauber, during which he accumulated 16 career points. His F1 journey began with an impressive debut at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, where he secured his first-ever championship point. One of the highlights of his time in the sport so far came in 2024 when he finally had the opportunity to race in front of a home crowd at the Chinese Grand Prix, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from fans who packed the grandstands to celebrate the occasion.

Zhou had been weighing his options after confirming late in the season that he would not be continuing with Sauber beyond 2024. Speculation linked him to a potential return to Alpine, but instead, he has opted for a new chapter with Ferrari. The announcement was made via the Scuderia’s official social media channels, sparking an immediate and overwhelmingly unified response from F1 fans.

F1 Fans Share Their Excitement Over Zhou’s Ferrari Return

As the first-ever Chinese driver in Formula 1 and a trailblazer for motorsport in his country, Zhou has built a loyal following, particularly in Asia. His popularity extends beyond his racing skills, with fans appreciating his stylish off-track persona and unique fashion sense. Additionally, Liberty Media, the owners of F1, were eager to see him remain involved in the sport due to his strong market appeal in China.

The response to his Ferrari announcement was swift and passionate, with fans flooding social media with celebratory messages. One enthusiastic supporter exclaimed, “THINGS WE LOVE TO SEE,” while another, caught off guard by the unexpected move, remarked, “That was not on my 2025 bingo card!”

Many were simply relieved that Zhou would remain part of the F1 world, with comments such as “Good to still see him on the game” and “SO SO HAPPY!!!” echoing throughout the discussion. Others drew attention to the symbolic nature of his return to Ferrari’s red colors, which also match the Chinese national flag. One fan pointed out, “ZHOU BACK IN RED!” while another added, “That’s great news, well done Zhou!”

Could Zhou Get a Future F1 Race Seat with Ferrari?

While Zhou’s new position ensures he will remain active in Formula 1, it is unclear if he will get the opportunity to race again. Ferrari already has a strong pool of reserve drivers, including Antonio Giovinazzi and rising star Oliver Bearman, creating competition for any potential stand-in opportunities.

Beyond serving as a backup driver, Zhou will play a crucial role in Ferrari’s simulator program, helping refine car performance over race weekends. However, should Ferrari need a substitute for one of their main drivers, Bearman could be the first in line, given his impressive stand-in performance for Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

An alternative path for Zhou could emerge through Ferrari’s technical partnership with Haas. The American team currently does not have an officially named reserve driver for 2025, having previously relied on Pietro Fittipaldi for backup duties. If a vacancy arises, Zhou or Giovinazzi could be potential candidates to step in for Haas rather than Ferrari.

For now, Zhou’s priority will be integrating himself into the Maranello-based squad and contributing to their success from behind the scenes. While his future as a full-time F1 driver remains uncertain, his presence within Ferrari ensures he will remain a key figure in the paddock for the foreseeable future.
