Home » Stefano Domenicali admits he found himself in “same situation as Mattia Binotto” at Ferrari

Stefano Domenicali admits he found himself in “same situation as Mattia Binotto” at Ferrari. Domenicali found himself in "same situation as Mattia Binotto".

On 14 April 2014, Stefano Domenicali resigned from his position as Ferrari team principal, after six seasons at the top of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division. As reported by Alberto Antonini in his recent article that appeared on FormulaPassion.it, a sentence from the Imola manager was leaked at the time: “I resigned so as not to give them the satisfaction of firing me”. In the meantime, eight years have passed (and three other team principals at Ferrari), and Mattia Binotto would seem to have replicated the move of the current president and chief executive officer of Formula 1, that is to hand in his resignation after having felt the lack of confidence from the senior management.

And precisely on the comparison between the two situations, Stefano Domenicali agreed: “I found myself in the same position many years ago, in the same circumstances. I want to wish him to stay focused and believe in himself “, was the advice of the Italian manager to his compatriot, who already seems to have a long list of teams that want to discuss a possible collaboration.

However, the Formula 1 chief executive officer did not want to challenge Ferrari, which was his home for 23 long years: “I don’t want to get into the dynamics of the team, but I certainly want to wish them the best for the future. When you are second with Ferrari, it is a result that is not enough ”, Stefano Domenicali explained, in a recent interview in front of the Sky UK microphones.

However, Stefano Domenicali is convinced that, despite the change at the top management of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division, the Maranello team could still be among the contenders for the 2023 Formula 1 title: “I hope they can find the right solution, because they have made a great recovery compared to two years ago. We need a competitive Ferrari with a good team, strong and with equally strong drivers to fight against others. I’m sure there will be more teams ready to fight for the win. The goal and the hope is to get to the last race with a good sporting fight on the track and all the premises are there. Everyone is looking forward to the first race in Bahrain“, concluded the Formula 1 chief executive officer.
