F1 | “This is an appeal to John Elkann” – What might Max Verstappen want from Ferrari?

Max Verstappen has appealed to Ferrari’s President, John Elkann, to acquire Michael Schumacher’s historic Ferrari F2004 and expand his own car collection, which would naturally include the cars with which the Dutchman became Formula 1 World Champion in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Despite never being seriously linked to the Prancing Horse, the Red Bull driver has always shown great admiration for Ferrari, as evidenced by a childhood photo of him dressed in red.

Max Verstappen appeals to John Elkann to purchase Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2004
“I would love to have all the Red Bulls with which I won the Formula 1 World Championship in my garage,” said the three-time World Champion to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In addition to Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2004, which is an incredible car. But I don’t know how I would buy it. This is an appeal to Ferrari’s President, John Elkann. I hope he reads this interview and maybe gives me a call.”

The F2004 was the last Ferrari car with which the “Kaiser” managed to secure a Formula 1 World Championship, his seventh title that solidified Schumacher’s legendary status. That car managed to win an impressive 15 out of 20 races, making it one of the most dominant Formula 1 cars in the sport’s history.

Nonetheless, Max Verstappen can boast of having driven some equally winning cars. Among these are last year’s RB18 and the RB19, a real powerhouse of the current season. The RB16-B also achieved historic significance by helping the Dutchman break Mercedes’ dominance in 2021.

Purchasing the original car, however, won’t be a small financial commitment for Max. Even Sebastian Vettel expressed his intention to buy it for his own collection. The German subsequently gave up on the idea, deeming it too expensive.

Even a show car specially built for promotional purposes and sold on Sotheby’s website two years ago was auctioned for no less than 660,000 euros. Max Verstappen will have to dig deep into his wallet if he wants to acquire a prestigious piece like the F2004.
