On 7th August 1983, French former racing driver Rene Arnoux took the win in the German Grand Prix. Scuderia Ferrari dominated the Hockenheim event, just as it had in qualifying the day before, when Patrick Tambay took pole position ahead of his fellow countryman and team-mate. Tambay got away well at the start, but was quickly overtaken by Rene Arnoux who kept the lead all the way to the flag, apart from the parentheses of the pit stops. Patrick Tambay’s engine failed on lap 11, which put an end to hopes of a one-two finish.
This was the second race for the 126 C3, which had been introduced by the team three weeks earlier in Silverstone, after the 126 C2 had been used for the first half of the season, in much modified form to deal with the rule changes introduced for 1983.
