2021 Hungarian GP: Ferrari remains cautious but aims high. Ferrari remains cautious but aims high in Hungary.

Budapest, round eleven of the 2021 Formula 1 championship. The Hungarian track is now a classic in the top category of motorsport, present on the calendar since 1986. The thirty-sixth edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix will certainly focus on the challenge at the top between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, a battle that was interrupted prematurely on lap 1 of Silverstone due to the collision which still holds sway today. Behind them Ferrari waits patiently. The Maranello team should be favorite over McLaren in Hungary, but there are even those who argue that the SF21 could be part of the fight for the very first positions at the Hungaroring.

In fact, Ferrari has shown an excellent adaptation to street circuits, being able to generate truly enviable mechanical traction. On the contrary, the cars from Woking give their best in medium-fast corners and straight lines, thanks to the excellent efficiency that the chassis-engine package produces. For the Maranello team, third place in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship is not of fundamental importance, as they can accept a different final verdict with extreme tranquility. Mattia Binotto reiterated this several times. This fact has undoubtedly removed the pressure and facilitated the Maranello technicians, as demonstrated by the results obtained during the last few weeks, which in fact have unlocked various potentials.

Confidence has risen a lot within the Ferrari environment, which is now aware of its own means. Mind you… the performance gap with Red Bull and Mercedes remains evident. However, the understanding of the car and the ability to extrapolate the performance from the car turned out to be superior to what one might have thought. That is why, although the approach to the weekend will remain humble and low profile in terms of statements, the undeclared goal is aiming rather high.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz know they have a pretty good chance at the Hungaroring. The characteristics of the Italian car added to a perfect weekend, without the slightest flaw, could give important satisfactions to Ferrari fans all over the world. Therefore, we just have to wait…
