Mercedes has not troubled Ferrari and Red Bull in Formula 1 this season on track but is now in conflict with them off-track in a BIG way.
The world champion team was at the heart of a huge argument over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, after the FIA made an initial attempt to take action in the debate regarding the porpoising effect and bottoming out which are affecting the 2022 Formula 1 challengers.
Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull have pushed back against a last-minute and then quickly-postponed technical directive issued just a few days ahead of the Montreal race, which led to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff labeling the political games “pitiful”. Just like that, a topic that was only bubbling away in the background until recently, is now one of the most controversial stories of the season – and one that looks far from settled.
