Ferrari completes Pirelli tests at Mugello: over 700 km for Carlos Sainz with SF-24. Pirelli: the two-day Pirelli test session at Mugello has concluded.

Ferrari on track ‘on behalf’ of Pirelli

The fifth testing session of 2024 for Pirelli, focused once again on developing new solutions for compounds and constructions to be used next year, concluded this afternoon at the Mugello Circuit. Just like two weeks ago at Le Castellet, the Global Tyre Supplier of Formula 1 enlisted the collaboration of Scuderia Ferrari for this two-day test.

Carlos Sainz took to the track today at the Maranello-owned circuit, after his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc took part in the first day of testing. The Spanish driver completed 135 laps at the wheel of his SF-24, equivalent to 707 kilometers, working on comparing different prototypes aimed primarily at reducing tire overheating.

The comments of Pirelli boss Mario Isola
“First of all, I want to thank Scuderia Ferrari once again for their collaboration in this test,” commented Mario Isola, Director of Pirelli Motorsport. “We are in a very intense phase of the season, and having their support again with the presence of both main drivers is a significant commitment. For us, these were two very productive days on a beautiful track like Mugello, a very challenging test bench for the tires, given its configuration full of fast and long corners: the ideal scenario for experimenting with harder compound solutions.”

“The data collected over these 1337 kilometers covered here in two days is very interesting and will allow us to begin narrowing down the most effective solutions,” continued the Pirelli boss, “so that we can finalize the choices over the coming months. Now our testing program will take advantage of the opportunity to run on tracks used in Grand Prix events in the days following the events: we will test at Silverstone right after the British Grand Prix and then at Spa after the Belgian Grand Prix.” – the Director of Pirelli Motorsport concluded at the end of the testing session with Scuderia Ferrari.
