Ferrari junior Callum Ilott to make IndyCar debut in Portland. Callum Ilott to make IndyCar debut.

Ferrari junior and test driver Callum Ilott will make his IndyCar debut at the Portland Grand Prix, driving for Juncos Hollinger Racing. The 22 year-old British racing driver has spent the 2021 season as Scuderia Ferrari’s test driver and Alfa Romeo’s reserve driver, while also competing in sports car races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

He will now head across the pond to compete in another category, Indy Car, for the first time in his career. Specifically, he’ll be driving for Juncos Hollinger Racing.

“I am pleased and excited to be announcing I will be racing with Juncos Hollinger Racing at Portland. This will be my first time in the NTT IndyCar Series and running in the United States, which will be a bit of a change from running on the European side. I am looking forward to working with the team during this first phase of their development. I would like to thank the Ferrari Driver Academy for allowing me to take this opportunity and for Ricardo Juncos and Brad Hollinger for bringing me on board the team.” – the Ferrari junior explained.

The team was only formed in early August following the formation of a partnership between Ricardo Juncos and Brad Hollinger. This will be the outfit’s first race with its new identity and the team’s first IndyCar race since the Indy500 in 2019. Given that, they wanted a relatively experienced driver, and while he may only 2022 and new to IndyCar, Callum Ilott was considered an ideal candidate for his expertise in single-seater racing and his talent.

“We are very excited to welcome Callum Ilott to the Juncos Hollinger Racing family,” Juncos said – “Callum brings a lot of experience and incredible talent to the team. We are confident that he will transition well into the NTT IndyCar Series when we get on track for our final test before making our official debut together at Portland next week.” – he added.

Callum Ilott has previously confirmed that his priority will still be getting a place on the Formula 1 gird, but it looks unlikely that will happen anytime soon with Alfa Romeo, his most likely destination, reportedly set to sign Valtteri Bottas for 2022 with Formula E champion Nyck de Vries also being linked to the team for next season.
