Ferrari’s reliability
There is no doubt that one of the weaknesses seen for Ferrari in the 2022 Formula One championship was related to the reliability of the power unit produced in Maranello. The Scuderia Ferrari engineers had tried to produce a super-powerful power unit, considering that following the engine development freeze imposed by the regulation, it was only possible to intervene on problems related to reliability.
There were numerous failures last year, which led Mattia Binotto‘s side to race with a limited power unit in the second part of the season, to avoid further retirements.
This year, things seem to have improved and the only Grand Prix that was affected by reliability issues was the Bahrain GP, where Charles Leclerc had to retire on lap 41. This technical failure had consequences for the Monegasque driver, who was then penalized in the next race as he had to use a new ICE and even the second MGU-H as a precautionary measure.
The rumor
Today’s edition of the Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport revealed a doubt that would still hang over Scuderia Ferrari, instilled by another team: “We are told that, after careful phonometric analysis of the Ferrari […], a direct rival of Maranello has been convinced that the 066/10 engine is not always pushed to the maximum.

As if the reliability work carried out last year in Maranello, and concluded during the winter, had not completely solved the problems and therefore a residual fragility remained, which must be kept under control with careful power management. The Maranello’s power unit remains the most powerful of all (although it is just slightly better than Honda)” – Corriere dello Sport pointed out.
In the upcoming races, Frederic Vasseur, team principal of Ferrari, expects a change in his team’s performance, corresponding to the updates coming in the next GPs, including those planned for Miami, Imola, and especially for Barcelona on June 4.
