In his podcast, Formula 1 journalist and motorsport expert Giorgio Terruzzi addressed an issue that has been on everyone’s lips for months but now seems to have been forgotten: the budget cap. After Red Bull exceeded the cap, the Federation had promised to request the documents, analyze them, and release the reports much earlier.
However, in 2022, the matter was discussed in November when not only the 2021 championship had already ended, but the RB-19 was also almost completed.
“Last year, Formula 1 promised that the budget cap reports would not be delayed. But here we are in June, in the same situation as last year: no one is talking about it anymore. Have they given the outcome of the 2022 financial statements yet? Are they all in compliance? Fine, just say that. Last year, there was a scandal within the scandal because when the results arrived, another championship was about to end. The FIA said they would work during the winter to have the numbers immediately, but nothing,” the journalist stated.
“In the first year, it’s understandable that there may be adjustments and that something may not work on the first attempt. By the second year, you have already directed a championship because whatever sanctions come now, the car is already there. Will it arrive again in November? Speaking of this year, has anyone officially told you what the cap limit is? It’s no longer 145 million because they managed to push through the sprint races, but we know nothing. It seems like everyone is doing whatever they want,” – the Formula 1 journalist and motorsport expert concluded.
