During the press conference that opened the Monza GP weekend, the topic of tokens was addressed following last year’s controversies.
Last year, there were several criticisms directed at the organizers of the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit due to the excessive number of tickets sold, endless queues for food, and especially the need to use tokens.
Many people complained about the way these tokens were purchased and used within the circuit. For this reason, the organizers were forced to initiate a procedure to allow refunds for unused tokens during the three days of track activities. One of the main issues was related to the NFC wristbands, which were impossible to use in some areas already from Friday morning due to problems with the designated terminals.
During the opening conference of the weekend, Giuseppe Radaelli, president of Autodromo Nazionale Monza SIAS S.p.A, answered questions on the topic.
“Payment systems have returned to cash and credit cards. Those who have tokens from last year can still use them as virtual currency. But I repeat, it will not be the main form of payment.” – he pointed out.

No new tokens will be used during the home race weekend for Ferrari at Monza. Monza continues on the same path that was also taken by the organizers of the Imola Grand Prix. Before heavy rains led to the cancellation of the event, Elena Penazzi, responsible assessor of the event, had stated that there would be no tokens for the Imola weekend. “No tokens,” were her words.
