Home » Carlos Sainz to Williams: official announcement could come at F1 Spanish GP

Carlos Sainz to Williams: official announcement could come at F1 Spanish GP. Carlos Sainz's move to Williams next year could be officially confirmed at the Spanish GP.

Forget Mercedes or Red Bull: Carlos Sainz’s next destination seems to be Williams. Several sources suggest the Spaniard will join the English team starting with the 2025 Formula 1 championship. This possibility was previously hinted at, but now it appears to have become concrete.

According to British Formula One journalist Joe Saward on his well-known Formula 1 blog, Mercedes intends to take Kimi Antonelli for the post-Lewis Hamilton era, while Red Bull is expected to retain Sergio Pérez (despite the rather poor performance in the last few races).

Audi remains out of the picture, as many believe it is not a competitive enough program for Formula 1. Joining Audi means accepting a project is highly unlikely to bring positive results in the next few years. Given Sauber’s precarious situation, we can only agree.

For this reason, Carlos Sainz might choose Williams for his new adventure post-Ferrari. As Joe Saward notes, the team led by James Vowles is gradually improving, although the progress is minimal for now. However, in 2026 they will have a Mercedes engine available, which could significantly help the team make significant progress in the Formula 1 championship.

Carlos Sainz might be thinking long-term. Moreover, Williams would have offered him a two-year contract (2025 and 2026), with the option to decide whether to continue his adventure or try something else.

If the deal goes through, the announcement of Carlos Sainz joining Williams could be made at the Spanish Grand Prix, his home race. Of course, these are just rumors. We will need to continue keeping an eye on the driver market.
