Ferrari team principal summarizes Lewis Hamilton’s feelings at SF-25 livery reveal in one word

Lewis Hamilton and Fred Vasseur, Ferrari 2025

Hamilton’s Ferrari Era Begins: A New Chapter in Red

Lewis Hamilton’s highly anticipated switch from Mercedes to Ferrari is becoming increasingly tangible. The seven-time world champion made his first public appearance in the iconic red at Ferrari’s F1 75 livery launch, marking a defining moment in his transition to the Scuderia.

For a year, fans and analysts have eagerly awaited the sight of Hamilton donning Ferrari’s signature colors. His shocking decision to leave Mercedes was announced before the 2024 season even began, sending ripples through the Formula 1 world. Now, as the 2025 campaign approaches, expectations are soaring in Maranello. With Hamilton joining forces with Charles Leclerc, Ferrari is aiming to reclaim its former glory after narrowly missing out on the 2024 Constructors’ Championship to McLaren by just 14 points.

Despite the excitement, Hamilton acknowledges that adapting to Ferrari has presented challenges, calling the experience “tough” so far. Yet, he remains deeply committed to embracing his new journey. His efforts to integrate into the team’s culture have been evident, including addressing Ferrari staff in Italian during a recent visit to the Maranello headquarters.

Hamilton’s enthusiasm for this next chapter is undeniable, and the sentiment is shared by Ferrari’s passionate global fanbase.

Vasseur: Hamilton Was ‘Emotional’ at Livery Launch

Ferrari unveiled their 2025 livery at a high-profile event at London’s O2 Arena, positioning themselves as the penultimate team to showcase their new design—aligned with the reverse order of the 2024 Constructors’ standings.

Standing alongside Charles Leclerc and team principal Frederic Vasseur, Hamilton received an electrifying reception from the crowd, a clear sign of the excitement surrounding his arrival. The Brit described himself as feeling “invigorated” ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain, radiating confidence about the upcoming season.

Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur later revealed that Hamilton was visibly “emotional” at the event, adding that his feelings had been building for some time as he prepared for his move to Maranello. It’s a new era for Hamilton and Ferrari—one that promises both high expectations and immense anticipation.

The French manager told Sky Sport Italy that the British driver had indeed been emotional in London but noted that these feelings had been present for some time.

Ferrari’s SF-25 Shakedown Faces Early Hurdle as Leclerc Stops on Track

Fresh off the launch of their latest challenger, Ferrari wasted no time returning to work, flying back to Italy for the SF-25’s first on-track shakedown at Fiorano. The session marked the car’s debut ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain, providing an early glimpse into its performance.

Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton took turns behind the wheel, with Leclerc running in the morning before handing over to his new teammate in the afternoon. However, Ferrari’s initial outing did not go entirely as planned. During his stint, Leclerc encountered an issue that forced him to stop on track, temporarily halting the session.

Shakedown runs serve as an opportunity to identify and resolve any early technical glitches before the season officially kicks off in Australia next month. Ferrari, eager to refine every detail, has already benefitted from insights provided by former Mercedes engineer Loic Serra, who has advised the team on optimizing their use of Pirelli tires—critical knowledge as Hamilton adapts to his new environment.

Meanwhile, early images of the SF-25 have confirmed that Ferrari has opted for a front pull-rod suspension, a notable design choice. Team principal Frederic Vasseur has emphasized the extent of the car’s evolution, stating that 99% of its components differ from previous iterations. With testing in Bahrain fast approaching, Ferrari is pushing hard to ensure their latest machine is ready to challenge at the front.
