Ferrari responsible, but not satisfied: “This is anti-competition”. Ferrari responsible, but not satisfied.

Scuderia Ferrari has had to endure a lot over the past year in the negotiations on the future of Formula 1. Indeed, in addition to the budgetcap, the development of certain parts is being frozen and standard parts are being introduced. All things that Ferrari is not in favour of, yet the team chose not to use their infamous veto.

Ferrari is the only team with a veto vote when it comes to the introduction of new regulations. Only if these regulations have to do with safety, they are not allowed to use them. So for the budget ceiling, which Ferrari is hit hard by, they could have done so. Mattia Binotto explains to RaceFans.net why they didn’t do that.

“In the first place, the veto is only something at the end [of the process] if you are completely against what’s happening. Secondly, as I said before, it’s a matter of sense of responsibility, that the good of F1 is the good of Ferrari and the good of Ferrari is the good of F1, vice-versa. So I think it’s not a battle. We are not on opposite positions. We need to collaborate on the right solution.” – the Ferrari boss explained.

Scuderia Ferrari, partly inspired by the corona crisis, thus takes a conciliatory tone. Mattia Binotto, on the other hand, is honest about the fact that they are not completely satisfied with the outcome of the negotiations and also have their doubts about the direction the sport is taking. Especially when it comes to freezing and standardizing parts: “Is it anti-Formula 1? I think freezing components and freezing chassis next year is somehow ‘anti-competition’, but I think the decision which has been taken is a responsibility towards the sport because we are facing certainly a very difficult situation with the Covid.” – he concluded.
