Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has confirmed that he does not intend to use the Maranello team’s controversial Formula 1 veto right, at least not in the “short term.”

The Italian side has been able to maintain its veto right following the most recent Concorde Agreement, which was established three years ago was agreed three years ago, which came into force in 2021.

The controversial ability to prevent rules from being introduced or changed give the Maranello team the possibility to therefore block any regulation update that Scuderia Ferrari believes may not be in the best interest of the sport.

This right was received by the Maranello team almost four decades ago and was most recently used by Ferrari in 2015 with the goal of blocking to limit In place since the 1980s, Ferrari used the veto in 2015 to block a proposal to the engine costs to $12 million. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur is confident that his team will not need to use the right any time soon.

“It’s a team representative and an F1 Commission representative on the World [Motorsport] Council, it means that I’m not voting for Ferrari,” – the French manager explained, when asked by the journalists regarding his new role following a recent meeting of the F1 Commission, which was held during the first race weekend of the new Formula One championship.

“I’m supposed to vote in function of the decisions of the teams, this is crystal clear for. The [F1 Commission meeting] was quite smooth and we’ll have a debrief about it. The power of the veto, I think Ferrari have never used it in the past because the level of work done at the F1 Commission – even if sometimes we are not on the same page and are fighting each other. But I think the quality of the job done at the F1 Commission level is very good and when we are bringing something [forward], the next step I think is quite finalised. I mean that honestly, I don’t see where we could use [the veto] in the short term.” – Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur explained.
