“Senna 30 years”: how Imola plans to pay tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. The Municipality of Imola has organized a rich calendar of events titled "Senna 30 years," .

At the headquarters of the Emilia Romagna Region, the mayor of Imola, Panieri, and Governor Bonaccini presented the program of celebrations in memory of Senna and Ratzenberger, marking 30 years since their passing. Here’s what has been arranged from March 21 to June 2.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of F1, and Bianca Senna, head of the Senna Foundation, connected remotely for the press conference in the Emilia Romagna Region where the celebrations in memory of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix were officially announced.

In collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality of Imola has organized a rich calendar of events titled “Senna 30 years,” unfolding around the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit from March 21 to June 2, with a special focus on May 1, the day commemorating the Brazilian champion’s passing. During this period, the Santerno track will also host two international events: the 6 Hours of Imola, the second round of the WEC, from April 19 to 21, and the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna GP from May 17 to 19.

In the presence of Imola Mayor Marco Panieri, Emilia Romagna Regional Governor Stefano Bonaccini, San Marino State Secretary for Sport Teodoro Lonfarnini, and Formula Imola President Gian Carlo Minardi, the rich schedule of events was illustrated, commencing on March 21, a date chosen as it marks Ayrton’s birthday.

At the San Domenico Museum, via Sacchi 4, the photographic exhibition “Magic. Ayrton Senna – Imola 1994 – 2024” will be inaugurated. Ninety-four strictly black and white shots by Angelo Orsi and Mirco Lazzari will be displayed. While the start of the exhibition is tied to the three-time world champion’s birthday, the 94 images commemorate the year of his passing. The photographs by Autosprint photographer and Ayrton’s close friend Angelo Orsi reveal not only the champion but also, and above all, the human aspect.

On March 23, during the FAI Days, participants can take part in a route called “Ayrton Senna from Kobra to Pierotti,” with guided sessions from 10 am to 5 pm. It will offer a journey of memory through art, speed, and nature, starting from the large mural dedicated to the Brazilian driver by artist Kobra on the facade of the Checco Costa Museum and concluding at the bronze monument by sculptor Stefano Pierotti in the Mineral Waters Park.

From April 16 to June 1, the municipal library will host the exhibition “There is no turn where you cannot overtake. The Imola racetrack from its origins to the return of the WEC,” featuring photographs, documents, and periodicals dating back to 1953, the year of the track’s inception.

Imola-based photographer Marco Isola, from April 18 to 21, will present eleven shots at Palazzo Vacchi, via Appia 37, for “ImolAyrton,” showcasing images from 1992 to 1994, including the start of the 1994 San Marino GP and the final passage of the Williams FW16 before the incident at Tamburello. The images will be available for purchase, with part of the proceeds going to the Matteo Bagnaresi Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children.

From April 27 to May 1, the Checco Costa Museum will host Memorabilia of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger: the Williams FW15C that the Brazilian drove at Estoril on his debut with the Didcot team will be on display. This relic will be made available by the passionate Jonathan Giacobazzi. There will also be a portrait of Magic created by Rita Amadori, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, who transformed industrial processing scraps into a work of art.

Sculptor Stefano Pierotti, from Pietrasanta, will set up a large mural in the city center painted on corten steel slabs depicting Senna’s face using the “Iron pictures” technique. Vinicio Dall’Ara will curate the exhibition at Salannunziata (via Fratelli Bandiera 17/a) from April 19 to May 19: the exhibition will revisit the birth of the monument dedicated to Ayrton and will reserve space for the “Iron pictures” with female figures and another panel depicting Beco.

On May 1, there will be “Ayrton and Roland Day.” In the morning, there will be a race/walk, while at 2:17 pm, the time of Ayrton’s accident, the “Senna 30 years” commemoration will take place at the Tamburello curve.

From 4 pm to 6 pm in the Autodromo Press Room, there will be a tribute to Senna, followed by the presentation of the book “Senna. Le Verità” (Senna. The Truth) by Minerva Editions, written by Franco Nugnes. Following this, at the Romeo Galli Municipal Stadium, a football tournament will be held between football schools from Italy and Brazil.

At 9 pm on the starting straight, a special event titled “Io & Ayrton” will take place, featuring a theatrical monologue accompanied by music and images.
