Felipe Massa’s legal team has urged the FIA and FOM to respond to the protest filed regarding the outcome of the 2008 championship by September 8th, or else the case could end up in the UK’s High Court of Justice. Just a few weeks ago, the lawyers of the former Brazilian driver had sent a letter directly to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali regarding the 2008 Singapore crashgate scandal.

As reported by motorsport.com, the federation is said to have responded to the aforementioned letter recently. However, the arrival of the summer break and the lack of available staff would have hindered a formal response to the demands of Felipe Massa’s legal team.
This stance apparently didn’t sit well with them, as they reportedly threatened the FIA and FOM to take the matter to the UK’s High Court of Justice if they do not receive a response by 4:00 PM on Friday, September 8th.
“The work on the response should have commenced immediately upon receipt of the complaint letter. The summer recess should not have prevented it,” reads an excerpt from the copy of the letter shared with motorsport.

“An indefinite time frame for a response is not in line with the Pre-Action Protocol. Kindly provide your response by 4:00 PM on September 8th, 2023. If not, we anticipate being instructed to issue claims for redress in the UK High Court. The FIA acknowledges receipt of correspondence from representatives of Mr. Felipe Massa. The matter is under review, and we will not be commenting at this stage,” a spokesperson for the federation reportedly responded to the new threat from Massa’s lawyers.
It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the next 10 days, with September 8th as the deadline to receive a response before resorting to even more significant countermeasures. What’s certain is that Felipe Massa’s legal team is serious and determined to pursue the matter to seek justice.
