Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel is an Italian fan through and through. And not only since he joined the Maranello team. His love for cars from the country beyond the Alps was already ignited as a boy: “I could not ride my bike until my father bought a mini Vespa for my sister and me.”
Bikes, four-wheelers. No matter. The main thing the means of transport comes from Italy. “When I was 16, I invested all my money in the first bike, a Cagiva 125 Mito,” says Vettel. “It was a bit embarrassing for me to go to school with it. The Mito was by far the sharpest car on the school parking lot compared to the scooters of the classmates.”
Today, the German driver is more than ever passionate about classic cars: “I have a weakness for old cars. You open the hood and you know what’s going on. I am also fascinated by the form and sophistication that already prevailed then. With the funds, which were limited from today’s perspective, one has already considered very clever things.”
In his garage there is a special place for the red Fiat 500: “I especially like the opposite doors. I do not like the new cars very much. But I’ve always been a Fiat and Ferrari fan. My absolute number one is and remains the F40.” He bought it “over detours” from opera star Luciano Pavarotti. His last official car: a Ferrari 488 Pista.

Sebastian Vettel still enjoys a ride on the bike. This often puts him back from the camper to the paddock. The choices were a BMW R 51/3 from 1951, a Suzuki 750 and a Kawasaki H2 750. At home he has a hard-core Harley, a KTM 690 Duke and a BMW S 1000 RR (199 hp ). Vettel: “The motorcycle gives you a sense of freedom that you do not have in the car. The senses have a different meaning. You smell the environment and perceive it even more than in the convertible.” – Sebastian said, as reported by autobild.
