Pirelli is preparing for the Abu Dhabi tests, right after the F1 season finale: the new C6 compound tires will also be on track. The involvement of teams and drivers in the 2024 Formula 1 campaign won’t end with the checkered flag on Sunday. Just two days later, on Tuesday the 10th, there will be a track session that will also feature a rich fleet of rookies.

The 2024 season is coming to a close, but it’s already time to think about the future. In Abu Dhabi, some will be fighting for the Constructors’ Championship – Ferrari and McLaren are ready to battle it out – while others, like the VCARB duo, will have one last chance to prove they deserve a promotion to Red Bull. For Pirelli, however, it’s time to conduct on-track tests for the 2025 tire compounds.

On Tuesday, December 10th, an important group test will take place. All ten teams will be on track, with one car dedicated to a rookie driver. The rookies will have the 2024 tire compounds selected for the Abu Dhabi race, while the other car will be used for testing the tires that will be seen on track in 2025 (except for the C1 compound, which is not suited to the circuit).

“Young drivers will have a total of eight sets of tires: two of C3, four of C4, and two of C5,” reads the statement released by Pirelli. “For the other drivers, ten sets will be available: one of C2, three each of C3 and C4, two of C5, and one of C6, the new ultra-soft compound that will expand the 2025 range, presumably for use on certain street circuits next year.”

“Unlike what happened, for example, in Mexico City during the so-called ‘in-competition test,’ Pirelli will not define a standardized program for the use of 2025 tires: each team will therefore be able to work in the way they prefer to gather essential data for the development of their cars for next year.”

“For this test, C2 and C6 will be marked only by the colored Pirelli logo, white and red, respectively, while C3, C4, and C5 will be differentiated by the usual color used for Hard, Medium, and Soft (in addition to the logo, the brackets will be white, yellow, and red, respectively).”
